The International Maritime Museum Hamburg is presenting the special exhibition \u2018The Sea Unites – The Greek Shipping and The German Economic Miracles\u2019 in cooperation with the Navira Non-Profit Company.<\/p>\n
The exhibition, based on the research of Greek Maritime Historian George M. Foustanos, explains how the orders of Greek shipowners with German shipyards after the Second World War contributed to the West German economic miracle and how international co-operation turned former wartime enemies into partners and friends in a united Europe. In addition, the joint success story is told over a period of 50 years and includes both the ships built for Greek owners in the former German Democratic Republic from 1971 onwards and the most recent modern cruise ships and RoRo fast ferries.<\/p>\n
The character of the exhibition is thus also in the spirit of the museum’s founder, Professor Peter Tamm, who always pointed out that the sea did not separate mankind throughout history, but rather brought it together.<\/p>\n
The exhibition will open in Hamburg on 24 September and run until 30 November. The project, conceived as a travelling exhibition, will then move on to Greece and will conclude with a presentation in Brussels.<\/p>\n
