THE GREEK SHIPPING MIRACLE
The achievements of Greeks in merchant shipping constitute one of the most remarkable chapters in the history of the modern Greek nation over the past two centuries. Nevertheless, the story of how they rose to become leading transporters of global goods has been minimally studied and evaluated.
This significant gap is being addressed by NAVIRA NON-PROFIT CO., established in 2020, with the purpose of preserving and promoting the enduring accomplishments of Greek seamanship, dating back to the time when Greek sailors undertook the challenging transition from sail to steam.
As part of this initiative, NAVIRA NON-PROFIT CO., is pleased to announce an exhibition by George M. Foustanos, titled “THE GREEK SHIPPING MIRACLE”, which will depict the entire evolution of the Greek shipping industry from 1857—the year the first Greek steamship company began operations—up to the present day.
The exhibition will take place at the Cyclades Gallery as part of the cultural events organized by the Municipality of Syros – Ermoupolis. The opening will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2023, and the exhibition will run until August 28, 2023.
Opening hours:
Monday – Sunday: 10:30–12:30 & 19:30–22:30
